Introduction & Commitment
Education is a critical pathway to opportunity, stability, and long-term success. SRYAL’s Education Support Program is committed to ensuring African immigrant and refugee youth have equitable access to academic resources, guidance, and advocacy needed to thrive in school and beyond. We recognize the unique barriers youth face, including cultural adjustment, language gaps, and systemic inequities, and we work to remove these obstacles through community-informed support.
Our approach strengthens academic confidence while fostering a love for learning and lifelong educational engagement.
Key Program Interventions
Academic Enrichment: After-school tutoring, homework assistance, and skill-building in literacy, numeracy, and study habits.
Educational Guidance & Advocacy: Support navigating school systems, teacher engagement, and academic planning.
College & Career Readiness: Assistance with goal-setting, post-secondary planning, and exposure to career pathways.
Family Engagement: Workshops that equip parents and caregivers to support their children’s education.
Culturally Responsive Support: Programming that respects identity and affirms students’ lived experiences.
Sustainable Impact
By strengthening academic performance and self-belief, this program improves school attendance, achievement, and graduation outcomes. Youth develop the confidence and tools to pursue higher education and meaningful careers, breaking cycles of underachievement and opening pathways to long-term success for families and communities.
